Immersive Environment Design for Travelers

Branded Interior Activation

At San Jose International Airport, moments of arrival are an opportunity to make a lasting first impression. With global attention on the region during major sporting events like the Super Bowl and the FIFA World Cup, the airport set out to create a high-impact activation that would welcome travelers into the energy of the city.

From Inspiration to Installation

The vision was to go beyond traditional signage and develop a fully immersive environment—one that could capture the scale and excitement of these events while standing up to the demands of a busy airport setting.

The Look Company was brought in to design, fabricate, and execute a custom airport activation that would transform a key area of the terminal into a dynamic, experiential space.

The Ask

The client was looking for more than a standard graphics package. They envisioned an airport activation that would welcome travelers with an immersive experience reflecting the energy of the world’s biggest sporting events.

The goal was to create a one-off activation that would:

Designing a Cohesive Airport Activation

The Solution

This airport activation was designed entirely in-house, allowing all elements to work together as one cohesive environment.

Rather than relying on standalone graphics, the space was built as a layered experience—combining structure, materials, and visual elements to guide how travelers moved through and interacted with the installation.

Multi-Material Fabrication

To bring the concept to life, the project drew on capabilities across multiple in-house production areas.

The final installation included:

  • Printed carpet to anchor the space visually
  • Custom-built benches and padded seating elements
  • Spinning block features engineered to rotate
  • Dimensional lettering to create depth and presence
  • Vinyl wraps applied across structural elements
  • An overhead display structure to define the environment

Every element was designed to support the overall airport activation, ensuring travelers experienced a unified branded environment from multiple vantage points.

Engineered Interactive Elements

A key feature of the installation was the inclusion of custom spinning blocks.

These elements were engineered to rotate, introducing motion and interactivity into the space. This added a dynamic layer to the environment, encouraging engagement while reinforcing the energy associated with live sporting events.

These interactive features helped elevate the airport activation beyond traditional environmental graphics by encouraging traveler engagement.

Built Under One Roof

Producing every component under one roof allowed The Look Company to maintain consistency across the entire airport activation.

Wood, metal, fabric, and print capabilities were all leveraged to produce the final installation. By keeping design, fabrication, and production within one facility, the team was able to maintain consistency, streamline coordination, and ensure every detail aligned with the original vision.

By combining structure, motion, and graphics, the installation created a memorable first impression tied directly to the excitement of the Super Bowl and World Cup.

Beyond the visual impact, the airport activation demonstrates The Look Company’s ability to design and execute complex experiential environments from concept through installation—bringing together multiple materials, disciplines, and teams into one cohesive result.
